Postcard from the edge

There’s nothing like a bit of sun to make you feel good – and turn your thoughts to the great outdoors. But are you doing enough indoors to ensure continued environmental wellbeing?

To be frank, the response to the environmental questions in this year’s Widthwise Survey of UK/Ireland’s wide-format PSPs painted a ‘mild green’ picture – obviously there were those that said they were making great strides in terms of CSR, that they were aware of increasing customer demands for a greener supply chain etc., but there were just as many that felt environmental issues had fallen off the agenda in the recession, and had never got back on. (The full Widthwise Report 2015 can be downloaded free at: http://www.imagereportsmag.co.uk/research/widthwise-2015-survey). So as a sector, how proactive are we in moving towards a more sustainable future? In this issue we asked a cross section of kit and consumables vendors for their position and outlook on green matters to see if they reflected the same ‘wishy-washy’ attitude as wide-format PSP in general.

In this issue too you’ll find an article flagging up the need to be more proactive about your company’s cyber security. As the piece explains, this is no longer something only international corporations need worry about – it’s impacting SME’s.

And what about being more proactive in collaborating to make more of what you already have? Designer David Bartlett explains how demand is rising for his BrandIt inkjet printable cardboard furniture, yet he can’t seem to fire-up UK printers to take on a license.

Enough of the hectoring - you know it’s only that I care, and sometimes opportunities are fleeting – a bit like the British summer. Go enjoy!
