Whiteghyll Visual buys cutting kit

Bradford-based Whiteghyll Visual Fabrications has bought an AXYZ cut-to-print CNC solution for its graphics department to help boost productivity and reduce costs. The installation follows last year’s investment in a large-format EFI Vutek UV printer which marked the screenprint operation’s move into digital output. Subsequently Whiteghyll, a supplier of bespoke retail display and visual merchandising products, was confronted with the problem of how to accurately cut out prints that had been created using rigid materials like foamed board, acrylic and MDF.

The decision to buy the new cut-to-print system came after Whiteghyll, which already had two CNC routers from AXYZ International running in its plastics fabrication and woodworking departments, realised registration of the printed sheet on the router and the complications of non-linear distortion of the substrate were leading to significant wastage. Together with high labour costs incurred by having to move materials between production departments and capacity problems this had led to Whiteghyll had to continue outsourcing certain jobs.

Senior Project Manager at Whitegyll, Richard Egan, said: “The time came for us to look at buying a machine that would be capable of both routing and knife cutting as well as providing a registration system for accurate cut-to-print alignment. We evaluated AXYZ International’s latest machine that provided integrated heavy-duty routing, an oscillating knife-cutting capability and camera registration in one economical package.”
