Prism Colour Solutions offers sign makers the chance to up-skill

The geneses for a new business concept can develop from various quarters but in many cases it emanates from somebody’s personal employment circumstances changing.

Such is the case with Dave Rainsford, ex-general manager of Roland DG Ireland, who has recently set up a specialist company called Prism Colour Solutions to offer sign makers specialist and bespoke training courses in software, hardware and colour management such as Signlab, Versaworks Rip training and general digital large-format printing. The new company is based in Naas, Co Kildare and, as Rainsford explained, its aimed at large-format signage companies that require up skilling or training in many key areas of production.

“I was with Roland for 12 years, initially as a service engineer and progressed up to general manager of its Irish operations which I ran until December of last year. Over time I have built up a lot of knowledge and experience within the signage/print industry in everything from plotters, software, Rip’s, to wide-format printing. There are a lot of printers out there with machines, which are maybe two or three years old, with a mix of different Rip’s and software. For whatever reason many individuals probably required a longer period of initial training than they received and as a result they are not getting the maximum production return from their machine or software.”

Prism Colour Solutions has been set up to address these issues because Rainsford firmly believes that there is a lot of knowledge and know-how that printers are not aware of and which, with proper training, would help to give them an edge in today’s market.

“One example is the fact that there are so many profiles available but a lot of printers would not be familiar with how to change one or, for that matter, what a profile actually does,” he said. “Another simple example is the fact that a machine is set up to feed materials of certain weights a particular way. When difficulties like banding occur in many cases printers put up with this by running the machine slower where a simple calibration would sort these issues out. And it all boils down to the fact that they don’t have the training or knowledge to overcome these problems. Prism Colour Solutions can now offer a solution to these and many other problems which are not being handled by anyone else in the marketplace today.”

Initially Rainsford is concentrating on Roland LFP’s but the company’s intension is to broaden out this facility across many other wide format platforms.
