Durst
Durst to the power of three

Three new UV curable wide-format printers were presented by Durst at Fespa Digital - the Rho 500R, Rho 800HS and Rho 1000, giving the company what CEO Dr Richard Piock claimed as "the widest range of medium- to high-end wide-format printers".

The 5m roll-to-roll Rho 500R combines a 400m?hr billboard quality output (200m2/hr in POP quality) with 600dpi six-colour (CMYKcm) print capability. Interestingly, apart from printing 5m-wide rolls, it can also print three rolls together (of different diameter but of the same material). Pricing starts at 400,000 Euro.

Another 100,000 Euro up the price scale is the Rho 800HS, a high-speed version of the Rho 800 UV flatbed. The HS model has twice the number of inkjet nozzles (i.e. 2048 nozzles per colour), almost doubling its production output over the standard Rho 800 Presto to a maximum of 216 boards per hour (125 x 80cm / 4x2.6 ft.). It will also print light colours without loss of speed. Other innovative developments include the integration of Quadro Array technology.

Like the Rho 800 Presto the HS version includes a mechanism for continuous board feeding and mechanical front stops to allow for parallel printing of boards.

Now top of the range is the Rho 1000 continuous UV printer with a maximum output of up to 600 boards per hour. Capable of integrating with screen and offset, this unit can print on sheets, heavy boards and roll media. There is minimum set-up time, requiring no "masking", and it can be loaded and unloaded using screen printing methods and systems. Pricing is around 1.2m Euro.
