FiberMark to show 10 second
casemakers (25.02.08)
On-demand books are big business, but until now they have had
to be either perfect bound or to use had cover cases of a standard
size. Now the first US-made Prazicase SC-2 Autocase casemaker
in the UK is operating at CPI Anthony Rowe. It was sold through
FiberMark Red Bridge, the sole UK distributor.
The £55,000 machine can make up to 300 cases
be hour, at a rate of about ten seconds per book. Sizes range
from 160 x 228mm to 406 x
660 mm and spine thickness from 6.4 to 82 mm.
The Prazicase SC-2 plus a new ‘baby brother’ version
called EC3, will both be demonstrated at Drupa. The EC-3
can create finished
cases from 100 x 216 up to 355 x 760 mm and spine thickness
from 6.4 to 82 mm.
Martin Collyer , Anthony Rowe’s Print on Demand general
manager, said: "We are delighted with the machine which
was installed and in production within the same day, it will
increase the production capacity of ‘one-off’ cases
significantly and improve the consistency and quality of
our finished product."
FiberMark Red Bridge is the UK's only domestic producer of coated papers,
art canvas and coated textile for the bookbinding, packaging and stationery
market. It has operated a machines' division for 33 years in conjunction
with Schmedt Hamburg.
