Domino plans speedy industrial
launches (29.01.08)
Drupa will be Domino’s platform for a series of product launches,
including version 4.5 of its successful Bitjet+ binary printer, which
it claims will hit the highest print speeds so far for in-line digital
printing, while maintaining good quality.
The show will also mark the European debut of the Domino L400 thermal
ink jet printer, the first offering in its new L-Series range. This
can produce resolutions up to 600 x 600 dpi across a 5 cm print swath,
and up to four heads can be positioned to print up to 20 cm. It can
operate at up to 115 metres/minute. Dual nozzles provide continuity
in case one becomes blocked. Domino claims speed increases of about
30% when benchmarked against competitors. It’s based on standard
Lexmark desktop printer heads, and with ink fed either from standard
desktop disposable ink cartridges or a 400 ml bulk ink system.
It can be integrated into mail bases, including Domino’s new
BaseLine ink jet mail base, and is compatible with envelope inserters,
folders, and narrow print webs. Variable data capabilities allow addressing
with postal industry barcodes including linear and 2D codes, postage
paid indicia, graphics and messaging.
An optional semi-automatic maintenance station, Domino M-Station, can
be included with the L400 printer. When the print head is incorporated
into the M-Station, it is automatically cleaned in controlled conditions.
If the head is then left in the station, it is automatically capped
by the system.
Also new will be the BaseLine ink jet mailing base, an offline mail
table that can integrate easily with Domino’s ink jet printers,
for high speed feeding of envelopes, postcards, magazines, newspapers
and catalogues as well as packaging printing applications. It will be
available with a friction, shuttle or rotary feeding mechanism. Future
developments will see the launch of an in-line option to allow it to
be integrated with a stitching or binding line.
