Building on WorkMates, the automated PDF based entry-level workflow solution for small- to mid-sized commercial printers launched by ECRM last year, the company has now released the RipMate module upgraded to version 8.0 of the Harlequin Plus Server Rip. This makes driving any ECRM imaging device fast and simple, through an easy-to-use user interface. At Drupa, ECRM will also introduce WorkMates 3.0, an entry-level digital prepress workflow solution.
The RipMate v8.0 enhancements include: PDFRaster output of variable page sizes; support for PDF 1.7 and PDF /X-4 compliance; support for MS XPS 1.0; and will run with Macintosh OSX 10.5 and Vista operating systems.
WorkMates 3.0, with its new GUI, will allow users to either view all or selected workflows. Users can choose to drop jobs into automatic flows for complete automation, or manual flows to create custom impositions to selected output devices. WorkMates 3.0 is a client server package offering users both Macintosh and PC clients with unlimited client connections. In addition, WorkMates 3.0 includes the latest Harlequin Rip release version 8.0 which offers PDF Raster output and increased performance from multi-threaded CPUs.
Epson
Hall 5, stand A01
Epson hopes to move into new commercial print sectors with the demonstration of a new product using its with a MicroPiezo TFP (Thin Film Piezo) printhead and by showing applications developed with its partners such as remote proofing, textile printing and inkjet CTP. These will be shown alongside Epson’s more traditional large-format offerings, including the new Stylus Pro GS6000, a 64in-wide printer with an eight-colour ink set that debuted at Sign and Digital UK.
The Stylus Pro GS6000 has a resolution up to 1440 x 1440 dpi and production speeds of up to 25m2/hour using Epson's variable-sized ink droplet and MicroWeave half-toning technologies to deliver fast-drying, scratch-resistant prints that are water and UV resistant for up to 1.5 years without lamination.
The Stylus Pro GS6000 will be supported by the major Rip vendors and will cost £29,995 (ex VAT), including auto-take-up-reel to support heavy rolls up to 30kg, a maintenance and starter-kit.
GMG
Hall 8, stand A11
There's a lot going on at GMG. In the proofing arena expect to see new versions of ColorProof and DotProof with easier handling, and intuitive support of the various industry standards. In the colour management sector, you can see ColorMaster in a Box for the first time. Based on GMG ColorServer, this is an attractive product for those that want to keep their data in the RGB colour space for as long as possible. Only at the last minute, when the printing process has been definitively defined, is the RGB data separated into the required CMYK target colour space.
Look out for the new GMG Connect, a software that permits integration of GMG products in Prinergy, Esko and Dalim workflow environments. It’s also useful for remote proofing, enabling cross-platform checking of print job statuses via the Internet.
In terms of media you will find a new 140gsm matt and a 250gsm gloss paper.
Konica Minolta
Hall 9, stand A26
A series of mono production printing systems will be the highlight of the Konica Minolta Drupa stand. The bizhub Pro 1600P, 2000P and 2500P produce up to 125spm sheets in face and reverse printing mode, and “can thus be used as an addition, or even an alternative, to offset printing," according to Jos Kelly, director of business development, production and solutions at Konica Minolta Business Solutions (UK).
The bizhub Pro 1600P, 2000P and 2500P use single-pass technology to print between 160 and 250 images per minute, which means they can handle volumes of between 150,000 and 3.75 million sheets per month. The three models will be available in various configurations from September. They are equipped with four paper trays and a stacking capacity of 6,000 sheets as standard and can handle a variety of paper media and sizes, including weights of up to 300 g/m2 and sheets larger than A3 format (up to 32cm by 48.8cm).
KIP UK

Optimus
Hall 6, stand D60
Users of the Optimus 2020 MIS systems will gain a better insight into their business performance with the launch of the Vision KPI module. The result of a six-month development programme and with the active support of Vision in Print, the new module translates the data captured by Optimus 2020 and turns it into key performance indicators (KPIs) that identify the trends within the business via clear graphics that refresh with updated data every three minutes. For those who need to analyse the data and look at trends in greater depth – perhaps year-on-year or month-by-month - Optimus has linked the Optimus Analysis module to Optimus 2020 Vision, so that users can drill down and interrogate the data at micro level, then customise its presentation as bar charts, pie charts etc.
Ricoh
Hall 9, stand A60
Three black and white production printers will be unveiled; the Pro 9006ex, Pro 1106ex and Pro 1356ex (90, 110 and 135ppm respectively). Their launch will be complemented by two new in-line finishing systems – a perfect binder and a fully automated ring binder.
Shuttleworth
Hall 5, stand B25
Drupa sees a huge step forward in MIS functionality for the Shuttleworth System. Joint managing director Paul Deane said: " The future lies beyond the dashboard. Sun Chemical
Hall 6, stand B75
A new range of sheetfed offset process inks will be introduced alongside a range of UV curing inks called Suncure Advantage that comprises around 30 percent sustainable materials.
