MARCH 2006 FIRST PRESSTEK
BRANDED DI HITS EUROPE (21.03.06) “The 52DI is designed to be among the most efficient and profitable presses ever brought to market in the 52cm landscape format size. It is designed to efficiently produce the lowest cost per page for print runs of 250 to 10,000, while maintaining its cost advantage into much longer run lengths,” said Peter Bouchard, Presstek vice president of marketing. The press prints at speeds up to 10,000 sheets per hour on a wide range of substrates up to 0.5mm (20pt) weight, as well as on synthetic materials. Presstek is making a lot of its patented Zero Transfer Printing (ZTP) process, whereby all four colours are laid down onto the sheet without any sheet transfer between colours. Quen Baum, Presstek Europe managing director, said: “Its B3 (520 x 375mm, or 20.47 x 14.76 inches) sheet size ensures economic sheet usage, full bleeds, and enables 10,000-sheet-per-hour throughput in a press with a small footprint. It is designed to be just what the European market has been asking for.” The Presstek 52DI press will be available as of IPEX. Hall 4 Back to topMORGANA TO SHOW NEW CREASERS (21.03.06) Two creasing products from Morgana will get their first outing at Ipex: the DigiCreaser and the AutoCreaser 50. The DigiCreaser is a bench-top model designed to fill the gap between semi automatic creasers, such as the Electro-Creaser, and fully automatic models like the AutoCreaser. Although hand-fed, all other DigiCreaser functions are automatic and perforating is a standard feature. The AutoCreaser 50 is a bigger and faster machine than the earlier model, taking sheet sizes to 500 x 700mm and performing up to 6,500 creases per hour. It will perform up to 16 creases in a single pass and sophisticated controls include a ‘head-up’ display that provides a series of simple prompts to take the operator through the unit’s various functions. Like the DigiCreaser, the AutoCreaser 50 uses a blade and matrix technique to provide quality creasing without damage to the substrate. Morgana will also use IPEX to promote its upgrade path and guaranteed buy-back scheme. At present, this upgrade path finishes with the Morgana DocuMaster, an intelligent feeder, creaser and bookletmaker that takes work direct from the digital printer. Hall 3 Back to topOCÉ TEASES WITH QUANTUM LEAP IN DIGITAL PROMISE (21.03.06) IPEX will act as a platform for Océ to show how its new UK business strategy ‘print innovation through convergence’ will work. At the heart of this strategy announced in February, is Océ’s wish to prove how customers can generate increased profits through technology and functionality, with a focus on system flexibility and scalability. The strategy announcement comes just before Océ launches what a system which it says demonstrates a “quantum leap in digital printing” for the transactional, commercial and book printing markets. At the time of going to press the company was keeping its cards close to its chest, but the system will be demonstrated at the show. To ensure its new strategy is driven forward, Océ has made a series of appointments and created a new business unit to ensure that customers will receive the right support. New technologies being announced as part of Océ’s convergence strategy include: the ability to accept transactional, variable publishing and traditional applications in the same workflow; printing single or multiple spot colour, full colour and mono applications cost effectively on the same hardware; print speed upgrades to mirror increased capacity requirements over time without replacing hardware and the ability to print security products on the same device as used for standard print. The company has just launched another five mono MFPs: the Océ VarioPrint 1055/1065/1075 delivering 55, 62 and 72 ppm and the Océ VarioPrint 2062/2075 at 62 and 72 ppm. Hall 1 Back to topLEVERAGING LAMINATING FOR PROFIT HEART OF GBC OFFERING (21.03.06) There will be three distinct parts to GBC’s IPEX stand covering the high volume, small to medium and wide format print finishing sectors.
