Drupa realigns ahead of 2016 show

Drupa is being ‘relaunched’ with the slogan ‘touch the future’, and will have six main show categories rather than the previous seven.

The 2016 show will stand for ‘Print and Crossmedia Solutions’. Exhibitors have been informed of the changes, which were formally presented to an international audience at Interpack 2014, which took place this week at the home of Drupa in Dusseldorf.

A statement from the show organiser stated: At present, the printing industry is undergoing radical structural changes and far-reaching consolidation processes. At the same time, new technologies such as functional printing, printed electronics and 3D printing, which have significantly increased their market share, provide major opportunities and potential for growth. The same applies to applications and solutions in the area of digital printing, package and label printing, as well as to the industrial production segment.

“It is precisely on these areas that the Drupa’s structural realignment and repositioning measures are focused, highlighting the industry’s innovative strength,” said Werner Matthias Dornscheidt, president and CEO Messe Düsseldorf. “Together with our partners, the VDMA, our member companies and global players we have developed the concept for the Drupa re-launch.”

The six main Drupa 2016 categories will be: pre-press/print; pre-media/multichannel; post press/converting/package printing; future technologies; materials; and equipment/services/infrastructure.

The organiser said all technical processes related to the areas of printing and cross media will be presented at the event, with solution-oriented technologies and applications, as well as innovative business ideas or best-practice examples in the spotlight.

Drupa has also defined package printing (including digital label printing), multichannel publishing and green printing to be of significant potential. These will be strategically address with separate events, event formats etc.

In keeping with the changes, Drupa’s corporate design has also had a makeover.
