Reproduction and accuracy of spot colours in expanded gamut printing are often considered to be virtually impossible, but a study by Ryerson University in Toronto shows they are achievable.
Ten vendors participated in the study, conducted in July 2019, including GMG with GMG OpenColor and GMG ColorServer. Two 7-colour digital printing systems using CMYKOGV ink sets - the Epson SureColor P9000 and HP Indigo 7900 - were used for the evaluation of spot colour reproduction during the test.
On the HP Indigo 7900 GMG OpenColor was able to reproduce 87% of the 1846 Pantone spot colours used in the test and achieved 89% accurate reproduction on the Epson SureColor P9000.
