Agfa introduces new 3.3m Oberon RTR3300 printer

Agfa has debuted a new 3.3m high-end UV LED roll-to-roll printer - the Oberon RTR3300 - at the C!Print show in Lyon, France.
The machine, which will also be shown at Fespa Global (Madrid, 24-27 March), comes in four colour plus white, and six colour versions. In ‘express mode’ it has a top speed of 150m²/h, and in ‘production mode’ it’s said to reach a consistent 85m²/h. The dual-roll option is capable of handling two rolls each up to 1.6m wide. The UV LED inks for the Oberon RTR3300 have obtained the highest category of Greenguard Gold certification. In addition to its air-cooled LED curing lamps, the printer has a water-cooled table that keeps the printing zone at room temperature for processing heat-sensitive media. There is a dedicated mesh printing function, smart multi-queue functionality, and a free fall option that may be used to print on demand, to reduce media waste. A light box next to the printing area allows for on-the-spot quality inspection of backlit prints, while a double light curtain ensures that jobs don’t get interrupted even when an operator accidentally moves into the safety zone. “When developing the Oberon, we once again focused on merging extreme productivity with extreme quality, in addition to delivering the lowest ink consumption levels and reduced overall operational costs. It is a position to give print service providers a competitive edge,” said Tom Vermeulen, head of sign and display, Agfa. “This new engine builds on decades of experience in developing and manufacturing versatile large-format printing solutions. Our unique systems approach integrates and optimizes engine, ink, media, workflow and color management to ensure the highest quality, consistency and reliability.”
