Adobe has announced its PDF Print Engine 6, optimised to make the most of emerging technologies, standards and workflows.
New is version 6 is a streamlined ECG Processing (Expanded Colour Gamut) for efficient and precise output to printers running orange, green and/or violet inks in addition to CMYK. A new spectral module will process spectrally defined spot colours. Varnishes and white underprints can be dynamically auto-generated from job elements at run-time.
There’s now image re-sampling - when resizing an image, a new algorithm will generate optimised colour values for derived pixels.
In conjunction with the Mercury scalability architecture, PDF Print Engine 6 delivers enhanced support for Variable Data Print (VDP) and variable product print workflows that can scale to drive any printer at its rated speed.
PDF Print Engine 6 will be distributed to Adobe’s print partners in June 2022. Products built on version 6 are expected to become available later this year.
