Fespa UK extends waste management project

The Fespa UK association is extending its waste management scheme to provide an end-of-life print recycling option following requests from printers.

“With an outstanding number of registrations for our initial waste management project, we have been working hard to try to solve some of the issues that arose after talking to some of the printers who registered,” said Fespa UK MD Suzi Wilkinson. “We are now moving forward and launching the next stage which will enable printers to offer their clients a direct from store to recyclers scheme.

“Our new scheme gives a solution to end of campaign banner recycling. It will provide either a tube or box system that will allow the end user to take down the banners, put them in the boxes or tubes and send them directly to the recyclers. This gives Fespa UK members traceability of their substrates even after installation.”

Fespa UK has also recently launched a sustainability hub ‘Responsible Print Solutions’ - an ever-evolving site that aims to help printers become more sustainable. The association has researched all the services on the site and spoken to member printers that have used the partnered companies.

Wilkinson added: “Our aim with the waste management project and the Responsible Print Solutions site is to do some of the leg work for the printers who want to stop talking about becoming more sustainable and get on and do something about it.  Times are changing and soon enough a certificate alone won’t cut it.  We want to support our members with initiatives that will help them stay ahead of the game. We need to take small steps together, sharing information and supporting each other to achieve a bigger goal for the industry.”
