Proskills Aligns to new business model

Following its restructure and the departure of its chief executive Terry Watts at the end of March, a leaner Proskills has a new business plan that sees it ceasing to be a Sector Skills Council by 30 June 2012. Instead it will continue as the Standards Setting Organisation and National Skills Academy for eight industries in the Process and Manufacturing Sector.

Tom Bowtell, interim CEO at Proskills said: “Proskills going forward will focus on a narrower remit to develop and uphold standards, qualifications and apprenticeships, drive demand for training and qualifications via the National Skills Academy provider network, help employers access funding and promote the industries to young people across the UK.

“The board felt that there were still significant synergies realised through working together through their own skills body, rather than joining forces with another sector where their voices would be diluted or unheard.”

Bowtell himself will leave Proskills in May when Ian Aspley, chair of Proskills Building Products Industry Board will be appointed as interim general manager. Richard Moore will continue as the industry Lead for print and paper industries.

Proskills will continue to support and run schools into industry programme PrintIt!, however, more support is needed from the industry to ensure its continued success.
