Postcard from the edge

Would you like to spend a bit more time sunning yourself over the summer – or at any other time of the year for that matter? Well maybe the time is coming when you can. I don’t mean retirement – and that’s getting further and further away for most of us! I’m talking about  artificial intelligence and its use within business.

As Walter Hale points out in the ‘On the Radar’ piece in this issue, you may be sick to death of hearing and/or reading about AI understandable when you consider that as with all technological revolutions, the hype often exceeds reality, especially as the technology is still developing but just consider what you’re dismissing if you let your scepticism win out here. Freeing up time is just one of a list of benefits AI promises to bring the feature on px highlights plenty of others and the pitfalls for those that eschew its use.

It’s worth considering that plenty of brands, manufacturers and retailers are already exploring whether they can use AI to manage their supply chain networks on a day-to-day basis. So shouldn’t you at least be exploring the options?

On the theme of supply chains, the environmental piece this month looks at Canon’s sustainability programme, and how it is reacting to stakeholders’ expectations that it fits into their socially and environmentally responsible supply chains.

And looking at the supply chain from a somewhat different angle. there is a special report on trade print company Venture Banners’ new online print ordering system – a white label website offering developed in-house to help PSPs sell more print. If low-cost ecommerce solutions like this can help large-format print providers bring in more business around the edge of what they do without having to do a lot it can only be good can’t it?

Hoping you manage to free up enough time to enjoy some rays before autumn sets in…
