Ireland's first Web-based Print Forum is launched

Irelands first Web-based Print Forum (www.irishprintforum.ie) has been launched with the aim of ensuring that the Irish printing industry is competing on a level playing field internationally through the open exchange of information within the sector.
The forum has ben born out of the experience that Trevor Lewis and Philip Geraghty (partners in digital print company Proprint) had in locating information and advice on digital print supplies in Ireland.

Lewis said: "We were finding it difficult and frustrating to locate information on a range of digital issues such as suppliers, materials, and finishing equipment for our business. There didn't appear to be any sites here which promoted the sharing of knowledge unlike in other countries where it is very common. So I started to look at a number of forums in the UK and the US where people tend to share a lot more information - such as experiences with a particular brand of printer or a brand of paper or vinyl or inks, as well as software. I realised that this type of information would be of great benefit to someone who wanted to buy, for example, a particular large-format machine because they could gain so much information from the experiences of other users.

"There is a lot of knowledge here and it could be shared without necessarily compromising competitiveness. I really want the forum to be an open and frank exchange of views where people can talk and share information about everything from off line finishing equipment, printers, materials, that sort of thing."
