ERDF Funding creates Jobs at Kernow Coatings

Kernow Coatings, a research-based manufacturer of large-format and narrow-format coated films, has been awarded £380,000 from the European Regional Development Fund in a project designed to create jobs, increase efficiency, and advance technology.

For Kernow, which has operations spread across three locations in Cornwall as well as a subsidiary in the USA, the fully valued £960,000 project includes a new coating machine designed to reduce product development cycle time and to increase manufacturing capacity, enabling the company to deliver innovative products reliably.

“Kernow Coatings celebrated 40 years of innovation at the end of 2014,” said Peter Newell, director of Kernow Coatings. “We have enjoyed significant growth over the years and particularly in the past ten. With this new coating technology, made possible in part by the ERDF, Kernow Coatings looks forward to even greater growth by expanding its product lines and its markets.”

The ERDF investment has assisted in making a commercial case for investment in Cornwall, safeguarding and creating employment in Penryn.

The European Regional Development Fund is managed locally by The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Growth Programme as part of the European economic regeneration programme for the

region. Running from 2014-2020 it will contribute to the EU ambition to deliver smart, sustainable and inclusive growth.
