Longtime EFI CEO Guy Gecht is stepping down from the role. Executive recruitment company Spencer Stuart has been hired to find a replacement. Gecht - who will make the move once his successor is named - will remain a director and work with the new CEO for a smooth transition.

Epson is collaborating with arts and design college Central Saint Martins (CSM) to encourage students to experiment with its large-format digital textile printers. The partnership will enable students to use Epson’s SureColor SC-F9300 dye-sublimation printer, SureColor SC-F2100 direct-to-garment printer and Expression 12000XL A3 scanner. Around 1,250 students across fashion, textiles and jewellery courses will have access to the products.

Prismm Environmental has warned that the cost to producers of packaging for recycling is set to rise quite substantially. Currently, approximately 10% of the cost of recycling is covered by the Packaging Recovery Note (PRN) system, but as Prismm MD Mike Jackson has pointed out: "It is now widely expected that the Resources and Waste Strategy from Defra will propose that costs of recycling covered by producers should increase to at least 80%.”

US print association SGIA has taken on a chief economist with a remit to develop its work beyond its traditional commercial print focus. Andrew Paparozzi will develop panels that extend the models of his long-running, annual ‘State of the Industry Report’ and ‘Capital Expenditures Report’ to the broadest range of printing markets, including graphics, packaging, garment and industrial printing.

Agfa’s new Apogee v11 will be available from 22 October as both an on-premise and cloud solution. It can intelligently combine print jobs and keep track of orders. Collation marks, signature barcodes and all other marks remain in place and refer to the original order.

Smurfit Kappa has brought out 100% recyclable and FSC accredited Digiflute corrugated sheet board for flatbed digital printing. The company said that issues experienced on digital printers - such as mottling and burnishing (particularly prevalent in designs showing high levels of cyan) - should be alleviated with Digiflute due to a clay coated print surface that enables quicker drying time.
