William Smith has added to the Vion monomeric calendered digital printing film range with VP3000-02 VF - which incorporates V-Flow air release adhesive.

New from Aslan is DFP 06, a transparent digital printing film with ultra-tack adhesive. The polymeric plasticised self-adhesive film has a silicone release liner and is double sided PE-coated for optimum moisture and temperature stability. It is suitable for use with solvent, eco-solvent, latex, UV-curing inks as well as screen printing inks.

GIS has appointed Laura Able to the new position of head of customer experience. She was previously global customer experience manager at Domino Printing Sciences.

Onyx Graphics has used the International Sign Expo in Florida to hint at the next major release of its software, available for Onyx Thrive and Rips. According to company president Kevin Murphy: "This upcoming release promises to disrupt wide- and grand-format printing with next-level performance, colour, and output that print service providers can prove to their customers."

Massivit 3D Printing Technologies has brought out the Massivit 1500 3D printer aimed directly at diversifying print businesses. The system will be on show at Fespa 2018 in May.

Fujifilm will use Fespa 2018 to focus on two new high-end platforms - the Acuity B1 modular system previewed at Fespa 2017, and a new system to be announced in April. Watch this space!

HP has announced its Latex R Series for rigid printing. In conjunction it has also brought out a Latex white ink. Both will get a full launch at Fespa 2018 and become available in Q3. Details are being kept under wraps until closer to the show in May.

Following investment in a 3.2m-wide dye-sublimation printer for banner and textile printing, Swanley-based Keyboard Group has this month installed a Zund G3 3XL3200 with 3.6kw router (RM-L) and Automatic Router Changer (ARC). MD Grant Mahoney said he expects it to “halve labour costs; where we had two people working on fabric finishing, now we only need one."

In keeping with this year’s theme ‘Creativity Brought to Life’, the main seminar theatre at Sign and Digital UK will host three industry panel debates this year, and double as a TV studio and base for the organiser to film the demos, workshops and on-stand action during the show (24-26 April, NEC).

In 2017 swissQprint’s Nyala large-format printer was Europe's best-selling printer in its class - UV flatbed/hybrid printers up to 60in wide in the 130,000-500,000 Euro price segment - according to Geneva-based market research institute Infosource. It’s the third time in a row the printer has taken top spot, with the new LED model now having replaced its predecessor.

Signs Express (Farnborough) has new owners in the shape of James Hancock and Malcolm Trounce. The pair, who have already expanded the workforce, hope to use their experience in project and technical support management in the airline industry to drive the business forward.
