Israeli corrugated display and packaging company Carmel Frenkel (a subsidiary of Hadera Paper) has bought a 1.8m wide EFI Nozomi C18000 single-pass, high-speed LED inkjet printer for corrugated media. The Caesarea-based printer will be one of the first in the world to have the complete EFI ecosystem for corrugated production with the Nozomi printer, EFI Fiery NZ-1000 DFE, the EFO Corrugated Packaging Suite EFI Escada corrugator control software.

Swindon-based ESP Colour has bought Totnes-based Kingfisher Print and Design out of administration for an undisclosed sum. The deal - signed last Wednesday (15 August) - pushes ESP’s turnover up by £3m to £20m.

Agfa has seen revenue and gross profit fall in the second quarter of 2018. Revenue was 559m Euro, down 10% on the same quarter last year, and gross profit amounted to 180m Euro, down 15.5% on the second period of 2017. The group said top line evolution was strongly impacted by the previously announced product portfolio reorganisation in the Agfa Graphics business and by the strength of the Euro.

Stackawraps is presenting a new product that it is describing as "incredible posters that just come to life”. Xaar is inviting tile manufacturers to its stand at Tecnargilla (24-28 September 2018 in Rimini, Italy) to see its 2001+ printhead family with High Laydown (HL) Technology. On the Xaar stand will be tile samples provided by Indian company Scientifica Tiles to demonstrate how the 720dpi printhead family can replicate small features, such as rock veins and grains of sand.

The Speciality Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) is to hold its first-ever wrap challenge at the SGIA Expo (Las Vegas, 18-20 October). The Wrap Team Challenge - which gives installers the chance to test their wrapping speed and skills against their peers - will take place each day of the show on the PDAA stand. Two-person teams will wrap the side of a car in 20 minutes or less, and PDAA Master Certified installers will evaluate the job based on the speed and quality of their work. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top ranked participants, with the first-place team receiving $2,000; second place, $1,000; and third place, $500. The competition begins on Thursday 18 October, with 24 teams competing. The lot will be narrowed to 12 teams on Friday, and then six teams will compete for the championship on the closing Saturday. Each day of the competition will use vinyl provided by the day’s sponsoring manufacturer: Arlon Graphics (day one), Ritrama (day two) and 3M (day three). Attendees can watch the competition from the booth’s Orafol sponsored WrapQuest area, where they can also test substrates on a variety of surfaces and get tips from experts. Registration for the Wrap Team Challenge is $150 per two-person team.

Digitally printable synthetic substrates company Kernow has appointed a new VP of sales and marketing for Kernow North America to support aggressive growth plans there. John Danio has taken up the newly created position to support Kernow commercialise its products - such as the new FloorSharK and the MetaliK line - in the region.
