Mimaki has enhanced its Tiger 1800B digital textile printer with the MkII version introduced at Fespa 2018. The new machine offers a higher 1200dpi print mode and an Advanced Pass System (MAPS) to minimise banding.

HP has used the opening day of Fespa 2018 to unveil the Latex R2000 - its first hybrid solution for rigid and flexible printing - and the DesignJet Z series (Z6 and Z9 printers).

The latest Printing Outlook survey from the BPIF shows 43% of printers increased output levels in the first quarter of 2018 (20% experienced a decline) - making it the first time for seven years that Q1 output has outperformed Q4. But expectation for Q2 has fallen to a level that has not been experienced since Q1 2016. 29% of respondents predict that they will increase output levels in Q2, but 30% forecast that output will fall.

Signs Express (Grantham) has rebranded the Leicester Tiger’s stadium. The company - a long-standing supplier and player sponsor - was given a week to execute the job at the historic Crumbie stand and the ‘Cube’ building within the stadium.

Linea Matei, a student at Konstfack University College of Arts Crafts and Design, has won the Mactac ‘Bright Young Things Take Hackney’ graphic design competition that attracted more than 200 entrants. Matei‘s work will now be installed on a two-storey wall at Hackney Walk, a retail destination in East London. She will collaborate with Mactac’s design and large-format print partner Onward Display and with installation partner GESS to complete the installation.

More than 1000 visitors attended the first Pure Digital event developed to bridge the gap between the print and creative industries. 35 exhibitors used the show - held 17-19 April at the RAI, Amsterdam, and collocated with Building Holland Show - as a platform to demonstrate the innovative potential of digital printing applications for the creative community.

Formerly known as ‘Meet the Manufacturer’, the show prides itself on being the only sourcing event that exclusively showcases British manufacturers and producers.

At Fespa 2018 EFI will introduce its new fabric soft signage printer, the EFI Vutek FabriVu 340i. The aqueous dispersed dye-sublimation system features a platen and extraction system that enables in-line heat press sublimation directly from the printer. Dublin-based CoverUp is the first company to buy the 340i - a 133in wide model - to improve its soft signage capability.
