Martyn Eustace of Two Sides - the initiative that promotes the attractiveness and sustainability of print and paper - has been awarded the Gold Medal by the Paper Industry Gold Medal Association for his longstanding contribution to the industry.

Orafol has extended its 970 Premium Special Effect Cast car wrapping film to include two new glitter colours: Mandarin and Intergalactic Blue. The new colours are available with a glossy surface, and in both a standard version and a RapidAir version.

Nominations are being sought for an award to recognise a young person of outstanding achievement in print - an award launched in memory of Victor Watson CBE DL. The deadline for nominations is Tuesday 20 June 2017 by 5pm.

Zund Plotting Systems (UK) has become a subsidiary of Zund Systemtechnik. Tim Taylor, founder and commercial director of the St Albans-based operation - which has been an official distribution and service partner of Zund Systemtechnik since 1993 - will remain with the company, heading up UK sales. Newly appointed managing director, Stuart Cole, will oversee daily operations.

PM Theresa May has visited Octink in Brentford, the second visit by a Prime Minster to the company in under six years - David Cameron visited in 2011. Brexit, apprenticeships and the importance of family owned businesses to the economy were discussed at the latest meeting. May sat in on a round table event before undertaking a factory tour and a Q&A with staff.

Global Inkjet Systems (GIS) has doubled its production facilities. The Cambridge-based company - which has been in inkjet development for a decade - has moved its production department to Edinburgh House in St John’s Innovation Park, where it also has test space and capacity for further expansion. The whole company will make the move in the summer.

The new BPIF ‘Printing Outlook’ survey shows 45% of printers increased output levels in the first quarter of 2017. A further 37% held output steady whilst 18% experienced a decline in output. The resulting balance (the difference between the ups and the downs) was +27 - only marginally down from +29 in Q4. The latest Q1 balance compares very favourably to last year’s equivalent Q1 balance of -1, and is the most positive Q1 report for three years.
