These aids include a powerful return on investment tool and a calculation of running costs. Alongside are a side-by-side comparison of Roland's wide-format printing options and an in-depth overview of the VersaWorks Rip, which is supplied with the company's Pro range printers. There is also an update section that showcases how other users are making the most of their products, with a particular focus on innovative applications and niche markets.

Rob Thurston has joined large-format reseller and colour proofing specialist City and West End Solutions (CWES). Thurston comes to CWE Solutions from GMG reseller Xelix, and has more than eight years experience with GMG proofing and colour management products. He joins Simon Landau, another technical expert on GMG products.

My Ipex planner goes live

The interactive online planning tool 'My Ipex' is now live. If you are thinking of visiting Ipex 2010 (18 - 25 May 2010, NEC Birmingham UK) you can use My Ipex to devise a personalised show itinerary. With it you can explore the event stand-by-stand by looking at interactive floorplans on screen, or by searching for exhibitors alphabetically, by hall, or product category. After identifying which exhibitors to visit at the show, you can then easily create a short-list containing all exhibitors' locations with links to their company profiles, press releases, new product information and video content at the click of a mouse. The personalised itinerary can then be printed or saved and re-visited when you next access My Ipex online.

Survey finds sector optimistic of 2010 recovery

The results of Fespa's first stakeholder Economy Survey suggest that wide-format printers and their suppliers worldwide are broadly optimistic about the chances of business recovering to pre-recession levels within the next 12 months.

Vivid plans expansion

Just months after opening up shop with an Epson Stylus Pro 11880 Barnsley-based Vivid Display is planning on buying two more printers as it anticipates doubling the size of the operation within the next year. The company, which started trading in February, already deals with about 16 shopping centres across the UK, producing POS materials, window graphics and floor vinyls.

Epson photo exhibition to wow sports fans

As official partner of the 12th IAAF World Athletics Championships, Berlin 2009, Epson (in co-operation with the non-profit organisation Kulturprojekte Berlin) will be transforming Berlin's finest street 'Unter den Linden' into a huge open-air photo exhibition. Over 60 sports-based photos, each almost 2m high, will accompany the World Championship spectators.

Avery Graphics upgrades warranty

There is now a global warranty programme for the Avery Graphics-brand self-adhesive signmaking, digital, and screen printing media.  The Integrated Component System (ICS) Warranty Programme is offered at two levels - ICS Performance Guarantee and ICS Platinum Warranty - and replaces the Avery Supreme Cover warranty previously used in Europe.  The aim is to provide assurance that Avery Graphics products will perform exactly  as they should, from production through conversion and application, and for the entire life of the applied graphic.

First UK installation of Fujifilm Acuity Advance X2 at ReproArts

The UK's first Fujifilm Acuity Advance X2 has been bought by Norfolk-based ReproArts.  Production Director Paul Hill said: "We first saw the Acuity X2 in action earlier this year and placed our order at Sign and Digital UK. Although it has been a major investment for the company, we knew when we saw it that it was just what we were looking for in terms of its print area of 3.05m x 2.5m edge to edge. That really is a massive sheet size.

Icon Graphics takes UK's first QS3220

Icon Graphics in Bletchley has bought the UK's first EFI Vutek QS3220. Director Neville Tosar said the flexibility of the roll-to-roll/flatbed UV printer, its 3.2m width and high production speed (up to 84m2/hr) make it the right machine for the growing company.

Large-format core to PrintIT! competition

Large-format print will be a core part of the fifth annual PrintIT! competition which targets students undertaking GCSEs in Graphic Products and Product Design. More than 200 schools have pre-registered to take part in the 2009/2010 competition which will challenge students to design a print-based campaign to promote Fairtrade products in supermarkets.
