BPIF updates its ISO 12647 certification scheme

The BPIF is re-launching its ISO 12647 Colour Quality Management Certification Scheme having made changes to accreditation requirements.

At a recent meeting of the BPIF ISO 12647 Colour Quality Scheme Steering Group the issue of inter-instrument agreement, calibration and servicing was discussed. The BPIF scheme requires that all spectrophotometers are recalibrated and serviced according to manufacturer’s requirements. It also states that laboratories carrying out this work must be accredited to ISO 17025. The requirement for ISO 17025 accreditation is proving difficult as most manufacturers do not have this accreditation, so the Steering Group will remove this requirement in the scheme.

BPIF consultancy services director, Phil Pateman, said: "Of course everyone aspires to deliver quality print for their clients and whilst print companies may have invested heavily in the latest technology to do so, it is only by attaining BPIF certification that 100% compliance on all work produced can be truly verified."

The new all-inclusive scheme costs £7,000 and with it offers a £1,500 money back guarantee should savings identified from a gap analysis fail to be achieved after the first anniversary of certification.
