BASF is broadening its portfolio of UV resins to include five new standard epoxy acrylates from the Laromer EA product family. The binders are used for UV-curable coatings for the furniture and flooring industry as well as for overprint varnishes and printing inks. They are characterised by high reactivity and chemical resistance to make coatings and printing inks particularly durable.

At Heimtextil in January, SPGPrints will introduce digital printers based on its Archer technology for the interior decor and wallcovering markets. At the show it will demo the new wide-format Javelin (pictured) digital inkjet printer for decorative textile products including bed linens, curtains and upholstery. The printer has a 320cm width and prints up to six colours at up to 550m2 per hour. The company will also show the new Pike rotary printer for home deco applications. 

Wide-format print kit supplier South East Drawing Office (SEDO) has appointed two apprentices and sponsored a youth football team to get print in front of young people as a career option.

Signarama UK has launched low-cost Signarama Light franchise option. At less than half the cost of a full Signarama franchise, the Light option provides the benefits of using the Signarama brand without outlay on production facilities, and it gives centre owners the option to expand into the full production franchise as the business grows.

Avery Dennison is buying specialty films and laminates manufacturer Hanita Coatings from Kibbutz Hanita Coatings and Tene Investment Funds for $75m.

J-Teck3 will use Heimtextil in January to debut its new J-Cube PNF series of sublimation inks to the European market. The range - which comprises high-density Cyan Extra, Magenta Extra, Yellow Extra and Black Extra - have been developed specifically for use with Panasonic printheads and tailored for uncoated and thin sublimation papers.

Sun Chemical has appointed Adam Anderson as managing director for the UK, Nordics and South Africa. He joins from DS Smith where he has held a number of roles during the last nine years, most recently as MD of the Heavy Duty Packaging Division (UK & Ireland). Anderson will report into Greg Hayes.

Harlequin Rip developer Global Graphics has acquired Cambridge-based TTP Meteor. Through relationships with inkjet printhead manufacturers including Fujifilm Dimatix, Konica Minolta, Kyocera, Ricoh, SII Printek, Toshiba TEC and Xaar, Meteor supplies production-ready electronics and software to print equipment manufacturers. It is expected that the company name will change from TTP Meteor to Meteor Inkjet.

Graphics has upgraded its Jeti Mira moving-gantry UV flatbed printer. The machine now now relies on UV LED curing technology and integrates with PrintSphere, through Asanti. Plus, its varnish option has been enhanced.

Avery Dennison has signed a wind power purchase agreement (PPA) with Apex Clean Energy to offset 50% of the company’s US-based greenhouse gas emissions derived from electricity consumption.
Under the agreement with Apex’s Perryton Wind - a 299.91 MW wind energy project to be located in Ochiltree County, Texas - Avery Dennison will purchase 20 MW of renewable energy capacity. The PPA is a key component of Avery Dennison’s 2025 sustainability goal to reduce absolute greenhouse gas emissions from its operations by at least 3% annually, and by at least 26% overall between 2015 and 2025.
