As a commemoration of International Women’s Day, it’s the perfect time to celebrate our newest female franchisee to the Signs Express network. Mayura Joshi recently became the Owner of Signs Express (Colchester & Chelmsford), celebrating the opening of her centre at the end of 2018.

Since its inception in 1995, Print On in Cheshire has evolved from a high-street photocopy shop to a digital print-on-demand company producing everything from posters and signage through to pop-up banners, stationery, die cut boxes, PoS displays, FSDUs, acrylic boards and general large format print and finishing. To support this growth, the Cheadle company has moved to a new purpose-built facility and filled it with the latest print and finishing technology, including a DYSS digital cutter from AG/CAD.

Back in 2009, Lee Crew and Nick Lindwall spotted a gap in the market – an opportunity to provide a high standard, large format digital printing service in South Wales. Starting out in a print room less than 20sq/m in size and with just one 1600mm-wide solvent printer, they hit the ground running. Ten years on and the company is celebrating a yearly turnover of over £2m.

The sign and graphics industry is now more accessible than it’s ever been. With a little investment, a workshop and a design software package, almost anyone can become a graphics specialist overnight. However, even with the resources readily available to the new starter, there’s one thing they can’t buy in a shop – experience.

Based in Four Crosses, The Clever Baggers is a specialist textile printing company founded in 2006 by husband and wife directors Vivian and Louise Lacey-Johnson. Producing a range of high-quality bags, tea towels, tableware, cushion covers and aprons, the company recently acquired a new, larger premises in order keep up with demand. In addition, they purchased a Mimaki CJV150-75 from CMYUK. The company had previously owned a Mimaki, and knew that they wanted to purchase another, “We didn’t have any problems with the old Mimaki, it had worked perfectly for us for so many years. It was simply time to upgrade it. It was a no-brainer to go with another Mimaki” says Sarah Evans, Fulfilment Manager at The Clever Baggers, “The CJV150 is as good as the old machine but shinier, bigger and allows us to match to Pantones, which is great when you need to switch print method but want the exact same colour.” The Mimaki has allowed the company the flexibility to offer unique one-off orders within the gift market, at the same time as producing orders amounting to tens of thousands. The CJV150 Series provides high performance, creativity and versatility with vibrant ink, including new orange and light black; another appealing feature to The Clever Baggers as they can offer brighter, more vibrant products. “The whole process was flawless thanks to CMYUK” concludes Evans, “From discussions about the machine to instalment, from training to the aftersales service they offer. We couldn’t be happier.”
