Bodoni’s pressSign 5.1 promises consistent spot colour tints

Bodoni Systems has brought out new version of pressSign-Pro to solve the problem of achieving consistently accurate spot colour tints.

pressSign-Pro v 5.1 features a new technology, called Visual Linear Targeting (VLT), that  shows the operator how to adjust the tonal curve based on a visual even tonal spread. VLT sets the tonal value target for any spot colour. Tints of spot colours print with a smooth transition throughout the tonal range. VLT prevents banding or stepping in the print process, giving a smooth rendition of the spot colour.

The VLT technology adjusts for the substrate and the nature of the ink colourants because it uses spectral data rather than density in calculating the tonal adjustment curve. This means effectively matching the colour despite changes in the paper colour or the use of different manufacturer's inks.

Ian Reid, managing director of Bodoni Systems, said: “We are very excited about the introduction of VLT technology into the latest version of pressSign. Printers have been asking us for a solution that will help them produce the quality their customers demand in all aspects of spot colour printing.”

In terms of wide-format inkjet in particular he added: “Although most wide-format devices print in CMYK they still need to reproduce spot colours as best they can. The Rip controls this functionality but most Rips don't do this very well. What usually happens is that the colour comes in very quickly and then looks like a solid from then.”

As well as using VLT technology to produce the correct curve adjustment pressSign-Pro 5.1 also allows the importing of tonal data to match previously printed jobs with spot colour tints.
