Roland sees 18% increase in red and orange inks

Roland DG is reporting a significant uptick in red and orange ink sales following its ‘50 Shades of Red’ marketing campaign to showcase its TrueVis technology.

The company said sales have seen a year to date growth of 18% on 2022, with a significant increase of sales hitting its peak in June 2023, after its 50 Shades of Red campaign launched at the end of May this year.

Pantone’s ‘Colour of the Year’ for 2024 has recently been announced as ‘Peach Fuzz’, a soft, pastel shade that closely mirrors Roland’s ‘Fox’ shade from the ’50 Shades Lookbook’. The 2023 Colour of the Year was also drawn from the red-end of the colour spectrum with the selection of Viva Magenta, a bright crimson shade.

Lauren Swinnerton, head of marketing communications and brand EMEA at Roland DG, said: “2023 was the year of red and orange. Following the brilliant response to our 50 Shades of Red campaign, we have seen red and orange ink sales increase as printers look to meet the demand for the colour from customers. We are glad to see Pantone agree with us with their choice for 2024 Colour of the Year.”

Earlier this year, Pantone’s Color Institute experts declared that the New York Fashion Week (NYFW) Spring 2024 colour palette will also be driven by reds and oranges. Orangeade (Pantone 17-1461 TCX) will take centre stage at the biggest event in fashion. This will be complemented by Rooibos Tea (Pantone 18-1355 TCX) red.

Swinnerton continued: “We are thrilled to see that vibrant, bright and bold shades are captivating both our customers and next year’s fashion and lifestyle trends. Colour is central to expression. At Roland DG, we are incredibly passionate about colour and the print possibilities you can achieve using our colour technology, helping you to create printed products as chic as New York Fashion Week.”
