Case study from Josero

A few months ago Mida Sign Services decided to invest in a flatbed cutter to expand the range of services they could offer. They spent a great deal of time researching the market and considered a variety of options.

After buying a Bubble Free Applicator from Josero in 2013, the Mida Sign Services team had built a good relationship with Loic Delor, the Managing Director of Josero and had come to trust his advice, so they were very pleased to discover that Josero sold flatbed cutters too. Loic introduced Mida Sign Services to the Summa F12 Flatbed cutter, and it seemed to do everything other cutters such as the Zund did, but it was substantially cheaper.

Jimmy Jarvis, Operations Manager at Mida Sign Services commented, “We couldn’t see why the other flatbed cutters were so much more expensive. Coupled with the fact that we trusted Loic, the Summa flatbed cutter seemed the obvious choice. We looked at all the other flatbed cutters on the market, and all were substantially more expensive. The only difference we could see was that some of the top of the range flatbed cutters were a little faster than the Summa, but when you see the price difference and combine that with the fact that our Summa can cut faster than we can print, the speed is not a problem at all. We opted for the flatbed cutter that included the routing unit as we knew we would utilise this added feature.”

The Mida Sign Services team use the flatbed cutter virtually everyday. Having had it for a few months, they keep on discovering other uses for it. Since its installation it has never missed a beat and has certainly helped increase production turnover.

Jimmy continued, “Our clients have been asking us to produce a much wider variety of work for them and as a specialised one stop trade supplier we like to keep as much in house as possible. The new cutter has allowed us to offer a much greater range of printed and cut products whilst keeping the costs down to a minimum. We use it for an ever expanding range of jobs. We used it to cut vinyl the other day, to compare it with our Mimaki plotter and we were so impressed that we immediately purchased a Summa plotter to use for Vinyl cutting! The Summa flatbed cutter allows us to take on work we wouldn’t otherwise do. For instance, we were recently asked to produce 600 Foamex panels. Before we had the Summa, we’d have had to buy the panels pre cut, which would have been too expensive. Now we have the Summa, we can apply multiple graphics per panel and then just cut them on the Summa. We use it to make letters, cut acrylic letters, prepare cardboard for folding and we’ve even started to use it to score dibond so we can fold it into bonded trays for signage. Previously we either wouldn’t have taken this work on or, more likely, we’d have had to buy these components in.”

Mida Sign Services have been delighted with the service they received from Josero, and their experience with the Bubble Free was one of the biggest reasons they bought the flatbed cutter from them too. Art Systems who are the sole distributor for this product in the UK handled the installation and training, with Josero liaising on the technical support.

Loic Delor, Managing Director of Josero concluded, “Mida Sign Services are a valued customer and we have a great relationship with Jimmy and the team. We’re aware that they are constantly on the lookout for the latest technology to improve their services. The Summa flatbed cutter ticked all the boxes for them, as well as the cutting options it also has a routing module for an even larger range of applications. Josero teamed up with Art Systems for this sale, as they are the sole importer for the Summa range of products in the UK. They handled the installation and training on behalf of Josero and did a great job of it.”
