HP introduces large-format PageWide print devices amid raft of launches

HP has announced a series of four printers that includes its inkjet-based PageWide Technology for large-format printing. The technology, which consists of 200,000+ nozzles on a stationary printbar that spans the width of the media (page), is incorporated into the new Designjet XL4000, 5400, 5000 and 8000.

Shipment will begin in September of the top-end 40in-wide four-colour XL8000, aimed at the technical/CAD markets and POS/POP output, and said to be capable of printing up to 30 A1 sheets per minute. List pricing has not been disclosed, but described by Thomas Valjak, VP large format design printing solutions, EMEA, as “appealing”.

The printers will be sold in the UK and Ireland via Perfect Colours, Stanford Marsh and Diatec.

HP has also announced new Latex and Scitex printers and inks.

The new HP Latex 370 enables more unattended printing at lower operational costs with higher capacity ink cartridges and the HP Latex Mobile App, now available, monitors print jobs remotely.

The new HP Scitex BF550 and FB750 are compact printers equipped with an enhanced loading system and offer a tabletop roll holder design for flexible substrates. And the HP Scitex 11000 provides increased versatility and better surface durability with a new overcoat technology. For corrugated converters, HP also announced the HP Scitex 15500 Corrugated Press with media handling for warped boards and HP HDR230 Scitex Inks.

“PSPs and converters are challenged to do more applications and keep productivity high, while reducing costs and working with limited space,” said Xavier Garcia, vice president and general manager, large-format sign and display division, HP. “The new printers address demanding PSP and converter needs for lowering operational costs, increasing workflow efficiencies and broadening application versatility to drive profitable growth.”

HP has announced the public release of its new HP Latex software developers kit (SDK), which allows third-party workflow and MIS developers to integrate their tools with HP Latex 370 printers for seamless workflow integration.

HP also is expanding its existing large-format portfolio of Designjets for high-volume production printing. The new products include the T3500 eMFP, T7200 production printer and HP Designjet SmartStream, a software program that streamlines the complete printing workflow.
