Making its debut at the SGIA show in the US is the Océ Arizona 480 GT printer that includes features designed to increase throughput and broaden the range of possible applications.

For health reasons Manuel Mataré, director of Drupa and digi:media, will gradually be withdrawing from operational management as of the start of next year. He will progressively hand over to Sabine Geldermann in a transition phase that will run until the end of the second quarter of 2013, after which time Mataré will support the Drupa and digi:media teams in a consulting capacity.

A new student survey shows that PrintIt!, the initiative to get youngsters interested in careers in print and packaging, is having a real impact. 74% of last year’s entrants felt they were well informed about printing after the PrintIt! competition compared to just four percent before.

A new ‘colour change’ vinyl swatch for car tuning and cast vinyl film from All Print Supplies (APS) comprises over 170 different polymeric and cast colour change films from major manufacturers such as Mactac and KPMF.

Fespa is offering early bird rates to print producers that sign-up for its Global Summit in London on 22 – 13 January 2013. It is the first time the event will be open to the industry in this manner – previously only invited parties have been allowed to attend the think tank.

Since June 2012, a further 46 suppliers have confirmed their attendance at Ipex 2014, pushing the total number of primary exhibitors to over 200. The latest sign-ups equate to 2,500m2 of additional floorspace, with Konica Minolta committing to a 95% increase in its stand size compared to Ipex 2010. 63% of the available floorspace is now contracted.

EFI has made a number of announcements regarding Fiery, including the unveiling of its Fiery FS100 Pro, its most productive, scalable and integrated front-end system for digital print engines. This coincides with news that the Fiery digital front ends (DFEs) are the first in the industry to achieve JDF certification for digital printing.

Océ’s backing for a £100m fund-raising campaign for the UK Flagship and Oceans of the Seas project - launched by the ‘Daily Mail’ - has been praised by Rear Admiral David Bawtree, a key figure in the project for more than 20 years.
